Liverpool FC have had over 600 professional players that either made it to the bench or the first team since 1892.The club has only had 17 (including Evans/Houlier partnership) managers in that time which is a testament to the solidity of the club and its financial status.The club has had great players in all eras.Billy Liddel or "liddelpool" as he was known was a tower of strentgh for the team that spent 8 years in the second division.Liddel could play centre forward or right wing equally effectively.he played 150 games in war time for the reds and even won the league championship with them the first year after thhe war.Its a shame we never saw him in the top division as his career was nearing its end when Liverpools fortunes took a turn for the better in the late 50s.
Gerry Byrne a solid left back and another local lad was capped for England and was surely only denied dozens of caps becasue of the presence of Ray Wilson ironically of Everton.Byrne became a hero in the 1965 F.A.Cup final playing the whole game almost with a broken collar bone...
